Cippenham Infant School has a wealth of dedicated, highly professional staff in every capacity. It also has a strong and supportive governing body who are keen to help the school go from strength to strength. As an individual, it is a pleasure to work at Cippenham Infant School and an honour to lead the school as its Headteacher.
My vision for the school for the next three years is that Cippenham Infant School will become a leading centre of excellence in teaching and learning. We will provide opportunities for students as well as new and existing staff in the borough, to visit and learn from our practice. We have to offer the pupils the very best through opportunities to enrich their lives and enhance their learning potential. As a result of this excellence in learning and teaching, other schools and colleges across the area will come to view us as a leader in the field of education.

 July 9th 2010

Dear Parents, Carers and Children

So another year is almost over and as a consequence this is the last full newsletter you will be receiving. There’s a lot to get through so here goes…

Reports

You will today have received your child’s annual report of their progress throughout the year. Having read all the reports I just know how proud you will be feeling about your child and the progress that they have made. Make sure they all have a little treat this weekend – a trip to the park, an ice cream, and extra hour of TV, a huge cuddle and big kiss; they deserve it!

Parents’ Group

We are thrilled that a number of brand new parents have signed up to join the group in September; this will help us to achieve our fundraising goals. We are planning events already including a 10k sponsored walk for adults only on Saturday 2nd October and a parachute jump in summer 2011!! The summer fete has been set for Saturday 21st May. We are hoping to plan out a series of events for children and adults so we can all enjoy socialising together. I would urge all parents to take the opportunity of joining in or attending events as it really is a case of the more the merrier and ALL the money raised goes directly to improving facilities for the children. We are facing huge budget cuts over the next few years and need to be very pro-active in raising funding for our own resources.

The AGM and next meeting of the group will take place at the school on Tuesday 14th September 2010 at 6.30pm. All parents/carers or even local grandparents are welcome. I’ve not doubt that Mrs Tang will make a delicious cake to share with us! A Macmillan Coffee Morning will take place at the school on Thursday 23rd September at 9.15am.

Open Evening

Next Tuesday 13th July is our annual open evening. We are looking forward to showcasing children’s work through displays and their books for your to look through. You can wander in and out of all the classes at your leisure, have a soft drink and biscuit, and, most importantly, take time to go and meet your child’s new teacher. We look forward to a 100% turnout between 3.30pm and 6.00pm.

Eddie the Penguin Saves the World

The Year Two leavers’ production is in full swing now, and the children love being up on the staging.

Don’t forget, Year Two families, that the performances take place at 9.30am and 6.00pm on Tuesday 20th July. The 6.00pm performance is strictly for adults only. Please don’t forget to return the slips sent out by Year Two to confirm that you will be bringing your child (you do not all have to stay for this performance). We have invited a number of special guests are awaiting replies from these people.

Walk to School

Way hay – WE WON!!!! Cippenham Infants is proud to boast that we had the greatest number of children walking to school out of all the Slough schools – how cool are we?!

On Friday 16th July, the Mayor of Slough, Cllr Jagjit Grewel, will be coming to our assembly to present the school with the trophy (which is currently being engraved with our school name).

This is one of the biggest things to achieve and I am over the moon with all of the children who were able to walk to school and who wore their gorgeous high visibility jackets – WELL DONE. Don’t forget children should still be wearing the jackets as they are very light weight and really do make a difference:) :)

 June 25th 2010                     Number 21

 Dear Parents, Carers and Children

 Summer Fayre

A big thank you to all the families who supported the school by attending the Summer Fayre; we all had a wonderful time enjoying the stalls, attractions and fun. We are hoping to have made a profit of £1500, which is amazing.

None of this would have been possible without the dedication and hard work of the Parents’ Group to whom the school is deeply indebted. The thank you that I give to them comes straight from the heart.

The children at school are able to enjoy so much more with the purchases that have been made with the money donated by families and raised by the Parents’ Group, e.g. staging, all library furnishings and playground furniture.

Class Lists

Class lists are now up on the notice boards outside the classrooms. The teachers have spent weeks sorting these out to ensure a mix of children from different classes, with friends, different terms of birth, additional needs etc. We are unable to change any children and I would suggest that you make this a very positive experience for your child. The children are involved in transition activities in school each Friday and have today met their new teachers and they all seem very happy.

General school transition

The school transition day is on Tuesday 6th July. This is when the Year Two children visit the junior school for the whole morning and our current Reception and Year One children spend the morning with their new teachers.

 June 11th 2010

Dear Parents, Carers and Children

Congratulations

Thank you to the handful of children who entered the summer fayre poster competition; there were some really sweet entries. The winner is Sara Barsoum from Busy Bees Class. Her poster will be appearing around Cippenham, so do look out for it. Sara wins five free goes on stalls of her choice at the fayre, will help to open the fayre and will also help to judge the pet show and fancy dress show. Well done Sara.

Summer Fayre

Well it’s all happening now as the time is fast approaching for the big day.

Horses for the horse rides are confirmed!

Pet Show at 11.30am – information has been sent out already!

New…children’s fancy dress competition – on an ‘animal theme’ taking place in the arena at 12 noon.

Ministry of Dhol performance at 12.30pm.

Raffle tickets have been sent home in book bags. If you require additional tickets the Parents’ Group will be making these available to you on the playground after school. They will also be selling tickets at Sports’ Day.

We are pleased to announce that the fayre is being opened by a very special guest, who is popular with and known by all the children (and probably grown ups too).

We do require volunteers to help out on the day – even if only for half an hour. Please sign up outside the classrooms.

Sports’ Day

Don’t forget Sports’ Day is due to be held next Tuesday morning – 15th June. It starts promptly at 9.30am. For new parents the format is:

Children are split up into different mixed age groups – they are not with their own class.

There are a range of different activities for the children to complete – they race against the opposite team (teams of about 12 children). The winning team gets a point. Over the course of all the activities the points are totaled and at the end of the day the winning team members receive medals in assembly.

Children enter the field and go straight to their starting activity. If you have two or three children they have been grouped so that they will all be in the same team. You are invited to follow your child’s team as they complete all the activities.

At the end of these activities we start on the running races. There is some re-organisation while these are prepared. Parents are all asked to stand on the far side of the painted track – children and staff sit by the canteen wall on the near side of the track.

There will be races for mums, dads and toddlers so please come suitably attired. Trophies are awarded to parents and sweets for toddlers.

After the races any help returning equipment to the school would be most appreciated.

The children will all leave the field first and return to their classes. Parents staying for the picnic lunch should collect their child/ren from their class (as at the end of the day) and you may sit together anywhere in the school grounds for the duration of the lunch hour.

If you choose to allow your children to use the playground equipment during the lunchtime including the adventure trail you must keep an eye on them and be responsible for their welfare.

When the school bell rings, this will be the time for families to leave the playground and for children to line up ready to go back into school. No children will be allowed to leave school after lunch.

We look forward to welcoming you and hope you will really get into the spirit of supporting the children.

 May 21st 2010

Dear Parents, Carers and Children

It’s always great to start with good news and it gives me much happiness to let you know that we are having a baby! Well not all of us but Mrs Lambourne is performing this duty for us – we are all really excited and are eagerly watching her tummy growing. Baby Lambourne is due in November so we’ll be keeping Mrs Lambourne for some time yet.

Walk to School Week

It has been a wonderful week for walking! How super to see so many children in their high visibility vests too. We had visitors from Slough Borough Council on Tuesday morning (you may have seen them with clipboards at the front of school); they were looking at the traffic flow and reviewing our school travel plan and they were very impressed to see children wearing the vests.

The vests make such a difference to how the children can been seen by drivers and although this is not school policy it is a fantastic habit to adopt. We will be counting up the sticker charts today and will let you know the class and individual winners for Walk to School in due course.
